    Water/methanol injection TD5

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has put water/Meth on their on their TD5. I got all the bits now just trying to save a bit of time on the nozzle size and how many gallons a hour. I was thinking about 4 gallons a hour with duel nozzles size 2 coming on at different psi, starting at 6 psi and then 15 psi.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes was thinking that way, looks like nobody has does it to D2 ?? but might go water to air inter cooler instead migh tbe safer. just a idea the car goes great now just looking at ways to make more efficient. As plugging thought the dunes the air has to say as cool as possible. Not much flow over the inter cooler.

And Yes Jazzman, I heard that Meth was pretty addictive as well......... maybe that's why they all do it ??

They do a petrol injection system on common rail diesels.

Don't know much more about it than that, read it in an article in one of the 4wd mags. This big HP hilux was running it.

18 l/ hr of water for a car that uses 12 l/ hr of fuel? I think your ratios may be a bit too high.

Water to air works best when there are heat spikes. Turbos in turbo diesels are always on boost so w2a doesn't work so well. Water will heat up in situations like you are talking about and be worse. It's not my coin, but been there with a mate's race engine. Although the w2a intercooler made a nice workshop ornament ....

I'm going to have a go at fitting water injection to my 300Tdi. I believe the main advantage in waste injection is in it's ability to lower exhaust gas temps.
I already have a coolingmist kit which has a 200psi pump and proper spray nozzle but I'll upgrade it with one of their better designed shut off valves. I had the kit on a petrol turbo and it worked well. I changed the car to straight gas and didn't need it anymore.
I'm planning on having it come on only at a high EGT, switched with the alarm function on the Auberins egt gauge.

Or tune the vehicle to not have High EGT

Forget the Rice, this stuffs British

Yes, it's easy to tune our engines to lower egt but usually it comes at the expense of performance. Towing a caravan in 45? heat, I think water injection would help keep the internal temps down.

Water injection has nothing to do with "rice".
It was used in the Rolls Royce Merlin engine. It's British...
