    recondition the DII

hello well after much thinking and calculation as was thinking about updating the disco to a 4 but getting laid off twice in a year (mining downturn) have decided to keep it for a few more years.

It has 270K on it and the trans is starting to play up not changing up when cold, last oil change oil was very dirty, slips between gears and a few oil leaks.

So my plan was to rip out motor and trans, do the seals and gaskets on motor and check the idler bearings etc on front of motor, check oil cooler, do the transfer case mod with the steel sleeve and replace the bearings, seals and gaskets.

Get a overhauled transmission and modified torque converter, replace the engine mounts and gearbox mounts.

I have locking diffs and steel bars front and rear rock sliders and a hydraulic pump fitted to transfer case to drive my hydraulic winch so getting another cheap vehicle would end up costing to get it back to the weapon that this one has been.

Is there anything else that would need doing while everything is out? have done most of the coolant hoses a while ago, resealed the fuel cooler, blocked off the EGR valve and had the motor chipped, bigger intercooler.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Sounds like a good plan. I was in a similar position and decided to fix everything and keep ours for our next big lap.

    If not done already:
New water pump and the oring between the pump bracket and block.
Replace alternator brushes and check slip rings condition
    Replace fuel pump if original
    Cheers
