    TC light on acceleration

    Hey Guys,

    So bought a D2a TD5 auto (230km) a couple of months back.

After a couple of weeks I had intermittent three amigos popping up, and the M & S lights when changing from reverse to drive quickly.
As I wasn't too worried about the three amegios as it only had happened a couple of times and would reset when the ignition was turned off I did start to get rather annoyed with the M&S light resulting in limp mode.

So went through the list of fixes in one of the the posts on here (big thumbs up guys, awesome) and finally got to the XYZ switch.. serviced and now everything is all good.

Was all good. today while accelerating the TC light came on and then after it went out up popped the three amigos again, who i hadn't seen for a month..

Been doing quite a bit of reading and am expecting the "your box is getting to the end of it life"... but have also been reading about people getting good results from giving the box a flush thus giving it a bit more life. gear changes have been a little rougher lately so was thinking of doing this anyway.

Is there something that I'm missing? other easier things to be looking at?

Time to plug a Nanocom or other diagnostic unit in and see what fault codes are logged. Otherwise you could be in for a lot of unnecessary expense.

There is a thread in the electronic diagnostic sub forum from memory which lists members with such gear. There may be one near you who might help.

    Cheers

Thanks steve. When i did the xyz switch i hooked it up to a diagnostic unit (cant remember what brand) as my cousin is a mechanic and has all the gizmos

But nothing showed up at the time. Will head to his on the weekend and see if it shows something this time.

If TD5 it must be one that can read Landrover D2 codes (Nanocom, Hawkeye etc). Non standard OBD so only some codes can be read by std OBD devices.

Btw: 3 amigos usually not related to auto. IIRC CAN bus mis-signal can cause them(?) Must read the post again as its been a while.

Thanks mate, will see what brand he has. If its no good I'll see if he and his brother want to go thirds in a noncom as we all have disco's and it'll end up living in his shop anyway.

Reason i thought the three amigos were poping up dude to the auto, which i forgot to mention is that on de acceleration and the box down shifting into 1st just before stopping there is a clunk and then randomly, not all the time they pop up.

Not sure what the iirc etc is but will have a scrounge through the forums.

    Thanks a bunch:thumbup:

My first action would be to check your wheel bearings for play, as a wheel bearing failing can change the distance between the sensor and trigger wheel in the hub.

BTW, a Nanocom will tell you where the fault lies if it is a sensor problem.
    IE RH front etc.
I had a 3 amigos only once in 3 years, when I did multiple uturns. It came up as low voltage RH rear sensor. I cleaned the connector and it has never returned.

TC light then 3 Amigos would have me looking at the ABS system...

Sounds like you've sorted the Trans issue, getting full power through, have spun up slightly (TC on) and then the modulator has had a fault code flash up..

    X2 Bsperka's and Tombie's Comments.

Make sure that his diagnostic unit has coverage for the disco 2 TD5 as though OBD2 compliant it has a lot of non standard codes.

Certainly likely to be ABS related. In my case a couple of years age it was residual oil in the plug at the ECU, after an injector harness change.

    Cheers

    Steve
