No it only lights up for a second.

Maybe your receiver has died.

When I bought my car, it had no keypad operation.

I bought a little RF detector on ebay to check that the fobs were transmitting and there is a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. I had to replace one of the microswitches. however generally if the light comes on it is transmitting.

I then checked that the keys codes were known to the ECU which they were. in your case if they have just stopped working , you will know this.

By a process of elimination it had to be the receiver, which I replaced with a second hand one.
I would replace the fob batteries first.

Ive replaced the battery in the fob, so ive ruled that out. Ive read about entering the EKA code...how is this done and what will it achieve?

I had a similar situation with my car it used to immobilize itself so I decided to change the receiver in the roof when I removed it i found it was different to the others that I had from cars i had wrecked as mine is a 02 so I cleaned the contacts and put it back in and i haven't had a problem since that was nearly 2 years ago

Must be something in the air, mine has played up twice first time at airport car park had been there for a few days had a half dead battery too that time and unfortunately the key would not open the door shaft from barrel to actuator was not in the actuator hole.

But when I set the alarm off by hitting back window (did that both times) it reset the bcu and could use the key fob second time was at this place I have only lived at for two weeks.

So am thinking may change out the receiver to a later one (same frequency) which goes to sleep after 96 hours instead of 8 hours.

I managed to get in with the EKA code. Now that ive entered the EKA, when I lock the car with the key, will I have to re enter the EKA every time or do you only have to enter it once?
Im going to get the RF receiver out tomorrow and have a look at it...so umm, where is it and how do I get at it?!

Apparently open rear left hand door remove the rubber and grab handle plus some trim pull the headlining down to gain access to it, not easy though others may give a better idea I have not tried it yet.

Yes its in the middle of the roof in front of the rear sunroof, or where it would be.
Its just a matter of scraping your arm as you undo the nuts, and unplugging the plug.

The RF communication between the fob and the receiver must work as to be able to start the car without using EKA code all the time unless you go on your own risk and disable the passive immobiliser in the BCU settings, there is a so called "passive remobilisation exciter coil" around the key barrel which "excites" the fob to send a coded signal to the receiver which will make the BCU to remobilise the vehicle, as long as the passive immobiliser is active you need both working fob AND receiver to not stay immobilised... the receiver is the most common to fail so it must be ruled out but if no joy it happens that the fob to loose syncronisation so you'll need to reprogram it.

don't waste money on a receiver as long as it works cos the receiver has nothing to do with the sleep mode, that's the BCU's internal timer so the only way to overcome that is by replaceing the BCU
