Discovery 2 A/C works but no go ?

    Hello,

I recently replaced the bearing in the A/C pump. All done, bearing replaced. The trouble is that the A/C compressor will not activate when asked to do so through the controls in the cabin whilst the motor is running.

I have checked all fuses - all ok

I have manually activated the A/C clutch with a Hawkeye - it works as it should in test mode.
All registered faults have been reset.

The A/C does not work while the engine is running.(that is, the clutch for the A/C does not engage while the motor is running)

Any thoughts on what is causing this problem would be most appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Just my thoughts. Must not be reading a temperature which requires the aircon to run or the system is not sensing sufficient gas pressure. I'm not sure that when you manually activate the clutch, it takes into account all of the interlocks.

X2 for gas pressure you need to locate the tx valve and see if there is power to it, if there is then its most likely not enough gas

    Thank-you Milton and Outback,

I just went and checked the gas pressure. The last whisper of gas left the system when I pushed the schraeder valve in on the suction line.

I'm off to get the system leak tested and recharged.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Jason, that'll teach you for replacing the bearing .
Strange though how your gas disappeared though.

    Thanks Mario,

I'm sure it was nothing that I did though. Nothing dislodged or pipes nudged. Never heard any gas escaping.
Apparently it is law now that if a cars' A/C system dumps its' entire gas charge, it is mandatory to change o-rings and seals.
I have been given a quotes from $150 to $300 so far.

    Cheers,

    Jason
