    D2aHead gasket

Had leak on D2a at 180k. Head and exhaust manifold machined, all bolts replaced.
Crack and pressure tested. Cost including labour $2600. This was three months ago.
If I required a new head approximately extra $2000.

I am missing something here. If steel dowels were fitted after 2A736340 does this not mean that plastic ones were fitted up till 2A736339?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Sorry. I'll clarify. You can fit steel dowels after 2A736340. Plastic dowels were fitted up to the 3A number, steel dowels fitted from new after the 3A

The ability to fit steel dowels after that vin indiccates the holes were bigger to allow for exspansion of the alloy head. Or so it would appear.
