Low range , hit the throttle and immediately back off when tc kicks in, this will then be controllable down the hill

sounds good in theory, but most situations on greasy hills don't allow for that, especially backwards....

    I was thinking the same...

From what I understand its a pretty easy mod to change the shifter over too so it will work from the TC lever.

Meant to type hdc not tc , and it works a whole lot better than sliding uncontrollably backwards down a hill with your foot on the brake, by allowing the wheels to turn slower enabling some steerage.

Yup! When descending either nose first or tail first my preference has always been to "drive thru the brakes" rather than rely on the HDC which my brother in law (a retired career soldier) aptly christened "angel gear" when i demonstrated it to him last year on Hearne Spur in the Victorian High Country. Most times on a good surface for a nose first descent of upto a couple hundred metres HDC is great - for everything thing else ie loose or slippery and or l o n g descents that require technical driving it's "drive thru the brakes" time and always with CDL engaged.

Ok, im not talking about using HDC at all
When reversing/braking on a greasy steep slope the abs detects a wheel locking & activates the abs which releases the very wheel/wheels keeping you from skating out of control backwards.

I havent experienced that. I back down using reverse low range and it just goes nice and slow like in the manual. If you dont brake and dont have the HDC on the ABS cannot activate?

    Cheers
