Im not doing any upgrades. But will look into the teflon seals. What could be wrong with the TC ? As soon as we start talking getting external labour the price gets beyond the value of the box...
I wouldn't take the chance on reinstalling the TC as is, at the very least it will be full of clutch debris

It's been shifting really sweetly but the t/case is coming out in the next few months for upgrades so reckoned I may as well pull the 'box and do the TC and flex plate, too. I have a HD flex plate ready to go in, it'll be on way out at current km's.

Once all that's done, then I can remap.
    Bit where do I stop??!!
Between the TC upgrade and the remap, that should charge up the smile counter for at least a year or two.

As you're fitting the heavy duty flex plate I assume you'll be modifying the TD5 converter?

    Yep.

The plan is a TCT V8 converter

Not familiar with the TCT stuff, do they still use the TD5 flex plate?.
Seeing that you just bought a heavy duty TD5 plate I'm guessing so

From what i can tell, Anything that came off a clutch would end up in the sump after, and then get taken out by the filter before going back into the system.

Small debris gets through, it's only a mesh filter, it'll be through everything inc cooler.

Torque converters are commonly the first thing to go wrong with these transmissions when not maintained

    It's your vehicle though!

Thats what i wasnt sure about is the capability of the filter.

How could a problematic torque converter cause damage to the tranny ?

I will make enquires though about cost at shop in nearby town.

The lockup clutch sheds friction material.
The standard clutch itself is pretty marginal in terms of torque capacity.
And the vanes can come loose in the converter, the inefficiency increases running temps of the fluid putting further strain on the friction material throughout the trans, the valves, check valves, etc

And as discorevy says, the filter is only a mesh gauze, more a strainer than a filter.

When I did mine i have a parts washer so connected it to the oil cooler and flushed it out, would rotate the cooler and swapped ends so cleaning fluid ran both directions, i also added an extra oil cooler too also brake clean as a final finish.

Yes getting the torque converter cleaned out and reconditioned they do catch a lot of stuff, the other thing that needs to be added is change the oil and filter after doing 4 to 5000kms there is a bit of crap that comes out from clutches etc bedding in.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.
