    4Hp22?

    its supposed to learn, right?

so what exactly does it learn?
    shift points?

    clutch pack pressure????

WE have just been away with the van again, first time since the latest drama, before the trip the gearbox was a bit, funny. Hard shifts and a reluctance to kickdown from OD.
With the van on its a whole new gearbox, smooth as silk.

I am wondering if the previous 7 months of towing every day "taught" the box?

Our 2002 Auto TD5 on a run, after towing the van, acts like the van is still behind and is reluctant to change up into 4th until about 90kmh. A couple of stop/starts and its back to normal. I sometimes check the lever is in D, not 3rd. Hook the van up again and it wants to go to 4th early for the first 10 to 15ks.
Sure I read somewhere in the handbook that the computer has a memory of the previous driving experience !!!!!!.

I have to wonder if they learn anything. Mine shifts gear at the same speeds regardless of whether I am sucking up to it or taking it out behind the woodshed.

I noticed today that the box was going into lockup at 60 with the stick in 3rd ... Uphill with lots of right foot trying to get above 70 to get to lockup ... Lots of up/downhill today and yesterday and we're towing 1.5T.

Is this the adaptive shift thing coming into play?

Yes It's a quirk I have noticed on mine.

It will lock going uphill at over 60 Kmh in third on moderate throttle.

It confused me as I thought I knew all the modes, but it does that for certain.
It is a good thing, maybe designed to keep the fluid temp down.
