Thread: Key FOB Doesn't Work

With D2 key fobs, the solder holding the little micro switches to the circuit board cracks. If you have a small soldering iron then re-soldering the micro switch to the circuit board is an easy job and often is the required fix to get them working again.

My suggestion is to try entering the EKA code, which you do by using the key in the driver's door lock, from OUTSIDE the vehicle.
Then see if the remote opening works.
If you don't have or know the EKA code for the car, you can obtain it from a Land Rover dealer by providing the VIN.
They may also ask for proof of ownership, and for this a current vehicle licence or transfer-of-ownership paper will do.
The process for entering the EKA code is rather laborious, and is described in the Owner's Manual. May be also in RAVE.
There are probably plenty of posts on the subject on this forum, as well.

Checked the board, no cracks or damage to it or the switches.

No lights. Even with new battery. I got my RAVE disc today, the manual says to use only LR or Panasonic batteries. Does it really matter? I used an Energizer battery.

Sounds like this is going to be a fun way of getting into the car. I'll have to call LR tomorrow.

Those microswitches used to fail internally though usually not both at the same time, if the led doesnt react worth a try to take a paperclip an bridge the unlock switch on the circuit just to rule it out 100%... if it works there are repair kits on ebay for that

Hi Apocalypsse,
If the red light on the key-fob is not showing when you press the "Open" button after putting in a new battery, then I think the fob is actually the problem. BUT: are you sure that you installed the battery the correct way up (polarity)? You could try turning it over and seeing if that makes a difference, before following up on more difficult potential solutions.

My mates D2 had both switches on the fob busted. Very cheap to get a repair kit from fleabay, but you need a small soldering iron and a steady hand to replace them. No, the battery type doesn't matter, my mates repaired fob is running an energiser in it without issue.

I'll try that tomorrow, coz if the alarm goes off I'm going to go all the way and pull the power out of the siren for it.

I made sure I put it in the right way, even Youtube'd it and it was right.

I found the following after a Google search, it's for a Defender but it should be the same alarm system.
