D2a Prop shaft angles 2" Dobinson suspension lift
Just wanted to show what the angles are with a 2" suspension lift. You can debate as much as you like whether 13 degrees is too much or not.
The 0.3 degrees is at the rotoflex on the rear diff. Ideally this should be 0 degrees but I've been told 0.3 degrees is not a big deal.
This has been measured by professional drive train specialists. It has not been knocked up by me.
I asked about wide angle drive shafts. Apparently they are designed to prevent binding / interference. They do not necessarily improve the stress on the drive shaft uni's due to angle. However... I imagine those who have designed wide angle shafts for the Disco also know this and use larger uni's and/or high quality uni's to distribute the load better hence the reason the need to be "wide angle" (large uni's) therefore last longer.
In the end assuming there is no binding / interference the killer of uni's is the grease heating up and becoming ineffective. Higher angles = Higher grease temps. (particularly at speed)
