2000 Disco 2 Td5 Manual to Auto Swap

Seems my clutch, flywheel & synchros are badly worn in my old Manual 2000 Td5 Disco. Instead of spending thousands I can pick up a complete Auto conversion kit much cheaper.

Just a few questions to check i'm on the right track here:

Do I need to replace my manual ECU with an Auto one?

Any changes to the wiring loom apart from adding the Auto loom that comes with the box?

Does the speedo cluster have to be changed?

Will the Auto bolt straight up to my existing Transfer Case?

Anything else to look out for?

Any help on answering these question is GREATLY appreciated in advance!! Cheers

YES you need an Auto ECU, the manual one won't talk to the Auto box.
Not knowing what's in the conversion kit I can't tell you about the wiring loom.
The auto should bolt directly up and your speedo cluster should be fine.
Have fun, it's a bloody massive job...

Hi, amongst all the above the most expensive and hard to fit is the main harness cos it's different from manual to auto and you'll miss the "datalink" between the autobox ECU/selector assy and the BCU, also the central console is different... i dunno what that conversion kit contains but i'm sure it's much more convenient to get a good second hand manual gearbox and a complete clutch+flywheel kit... to replace the main harness you have to completely remove whole dash

Having started a manual to auto conversion in another vehicle, I wouldn't go there again. Particularly in a car like this where there is a fair bit of electrical control, and the systems like the BCU and ECU talk to each other and the auto box so much.

To be honest, I would have thought that for similar quality, a secondhand manual gearbox would be cheaper than an auto, and with the age of these vehicles, a second hand auto that hasn't been reconditioned could end up being of pretty average quality anyway.

You'll certainly need access to a nanocom to talk to the ecu, and will need to know what settings for a whole range of other items, including injectors.
