    D2a ball joints.

    G'day all.
Whilst under the Disco yesterday I noticed the the right hand lower ball joint has a split rubber boot. It looks like damage rather than age. My car only has 97K on it. I have applied some silicone sealant over the crack. Will this be ok?
All others boots are in good order.
    Thoughts?
    Regards

It will take a while for the dirt and grit to effect the ball joint,I would just keep an eye on it to see if there is any play.A bit of a project to just replace the boot, unless there is another solution.

I had another look just then and the silicone seems to have sealed the split. The front end is still very tight and steering is very direct.
Question. Don't you have to remove the hub carrier to change the boots?

    Yes the carrier needs removal.
Look up 'swearing and skinned knuckles' on Youtube for a tutorial on how to do that, plus replace the ball joints.

    Cheers,

    Jason
