Hi Fellipe,
Are you using BIODiesel?
The TD5 is not designed for biodiesel, and it is recommended NOT to use it.

Hi guys
After a couple of weeks with my disco, I'm kinda sad with its fuel consumption.
It's averaging 16mpg on urban use.
When I got my disco it had really low torque which I was able to fix by cleaning both map and maf sensors.
It has been converted to coils by the previous owner and also it has a 2" lift.
Another thing the previous owner did was putting BFG at ko 275/65R18 tyres. Althought I think they affect fuel eficiemcy, I am not so sure if it would be enough to give me that horrendous mpg.
I am really disapponted because I keep reading people getting above 26 mpg on urban use.
Please help

I have similar set up 2003 td5 auto 265/70/16 tyres etc only just getting over 700 per tank but mine has been chipped goes well on and off plenty of power when needed and agree with tyre size I have never checked myself

There could be sooo many reasons, do you still have EGR? , try to drive it few days with MAF unplugged cos only cleaning it might not be enough
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Assuming you are accounting for any odo error, then yes those tyres combined with the 2inch lift would be contributing to your bad economy. Is it an auto or manual. Auto's can also use more fuel.
I'm sure like many others I have aTD5 auto with a lift, 35 mm in my case, 265 75 16 tyres, a remap, EGR removed, cat removed, and still get about 25 mpg around town with a rear section full of tools etc, admittedly driving fairly sensibly

Hi guys. I really appreciate all the help I am getting
A few points I wanted to clear
- my speedometer is off by 10%. So I accounted for it when calculating mpg
- my car is auto
-Running s10 diesel
- no egr from factory
Question: if I run with maf disconnected, maybe I can get a better mpg if that's the problem?
Disconne ting the maf will establish a base line for your readings, as the ecu defaults to a basic factory setting. So then you can compare results as you try other things. Fuel consumption can be linked to so many varibles it is hard to say. Tyres, engine condition, fuel quality, air quality, eg altitude, filters, load ,external fittings like roof racks and not least how its being driven. Hope this helps, its a nice looking disco
Cheers Scott
G'day Fellipe,
Check your wastegate linkage and ensure it is set correctly!
I experienced similar conditions, fuel consumption and low-end torque/acceleration was just terrible. Cleaning/disconnecting MAF had nil effect.
My linkage was loose (the locknut was tight though) so maybe the valve and shaft had vibrated/worn into the housing causing it to leak exhaust gases through reducing boost pressure. I think I had inherited this problem from the previous owner but it certainly had got worse with me.
Food for thought! Good luck.
