    You would be better off getting a 2002 or later, TD5 with the 15P motor,better design cylinder head and the NNN ECU is easily programmed.As mentioned check for oil in the harness to the injectors,easily replaced,as are the exhaust manifold studs,if broken and the fuel regulator,if leaking!Other than that,good vehicle...oh yes electric fuel pump can play up/fail if dodgy fuel or continuosly run on low level in tank.

    Sorry but running low fuel has nothing to do with killing fuel pumps
    As long as there is fuel in the tank it will be fine
    The fuel pumps have a built in swirl pot which keeps the pump motor submerged
