    Question How do I find a D2 buyer?

    My 2002 TD5 Auto has finally defeated me. It has developed an infrequent engine immobilising fault that turned me off my remote prospecting hobby. After being stranded deep in the bush before finally starting it I couldn't risk going again...then some youths broke in to my unit, lifted my car keys and stole it. They got 2 k's to a servo where the fault occurred and they bolted. Since then it has been with Tony Ireland Land Rover in Townsville and thousands of dollars later [RACQ cost] they are unable to guarantee it won't happen again. It does run beautifully normally but on a pension and no cash I can't take the risk anymore.

    With that fault possibility [and probably the 3 Amigo + 2 lights always on] dealerships aren't interested in selling on consignment. Trade in is not possible due to finances.

    Are there any constructive suggestions about disposal for the best value? RACQ will truck it back here to Charters Towers even though it can be driven. I would assume that a buyer would be reluctant with the potential fault even if it never reoccurred but this forum often notes various contributors desire to do maintenance...unfortunately not me at 74.

    It is the best vehicle I have ever owned or driven and is in good condition with only 164,000 k's on the clock.

    Get the imoboliser turned off by the rover place,end of problem.

    If you have definitely reached the "it must go" point. Advertise on the AULRO vehicles for sale and point out the issues. You are amongst friends and may find someone prepared to pay fair value. Your frustration may be someone else's challenge.

    But gee - we need to find the solution. Sierrafery is a bit of a guru for finding obscure electronic faults but may not be up to speed on your past issues. Maybe one last go to find a solution is called for.

    Yours has relatively low kw, however at that age (the car) it is often the start of a slippery-slope of problems, none of which are cheap in the D2.

    I bailed out from my beloved 2000 D2 at 320K for $4000.00 (a small fraction of repair bill just for the previous 6 months) and bought a TDV6 D3, not overly expensive, and like you I enjoy remote prospecting. If you are over doing your own repairs, the V6 petrol D3 would also be worth considering.

    It has proven to be a timely and beneficial decision for me, just back from a detecting trip into the Great Victoria Desert, a few nice nugs, (not the superannuation nugget, unfortunately), and the car continues to impress on a daily basis.

    Current D2 owners will sway the other way, and I cannot blame them, they are a great 4WD on and off roads. Hard decision. Good luck.

    I cant recall if it is that easy, but it is a very good idea.
    There should a member with a Nanocom etc who could do that for you, they could also read the faults for 3 amigoes.
    It would then be able to be adequately described for sale and might provide more reliability.
    If you have decided on selling it anyway at least get the codes causing the amigoes read (from a member)

    Try the "What is this worth?" Sub Forum for some input.

    Thanks for the feedback. As I mentioned in my post a trade in is not an option due to my finances. I had considered having the immobiliser disconnected as I had researched this on the forum. As for the 3 Amigos I have had those lights for 9 years and naturally checked with the Land Rover Dealership in Townsville plus other mechanics who were never able to remove them . I replaced the modulating valve etc. etc. with no change. As I never noticed any effects over the years I just got used to them. I have moved on from that issue. I will look at having the immobiliser disconnected and try to find a buyer....thanks for the replies.

    Unhappy Immobilising the immobiliser!

    Well....I am surprised to be told by Tony Ireland Land Rover Townsville that Discoverys can't have this done! "never heard of it/seen it done/performed it " The contact person said that the very experienced and long serving technician was amazed that I could have heard that this was possible. What do you guys make of that statement...constructively of course. I am somewhat staggered to hear the comment.
