Thread: D2 Wheel/Tyre advice

    Thanks!

Thanks All for the great feedback. I'm hopefully close to getting a set of 16x7 ('Polar' I think) rims. I have a 2004 D2a - stock suspension (without SLS).
While I'd like some Muddies I'll probably end up with some All Terrains - (always liked the BFG All Terrain TA's I had on my Defender). Most of my driving is on road. Does anyone know what size I could run without requiring a suspension lift? And, if I did go for a lift - any recommendations for a good 4WD outfit in Canberra?

I am currently hunting for a second set of rims myself, can I run a set of 235/85/16 on a standard coil sprung D2 without too much rub, barring in mind it will be a second set and only used on occasions.

Yes, 235x85 16 are ok without a lift or need to cut anything on a D2. I suspect that the steering stops are the only adjustment that maybe required. I did not have any issues. I have the SLS airbags at the rear but that should not make any difference. I can tell you from personal experience that the rears don't rub even when the suspension sits on the bump stops and that is with KM2 mud tyres.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree if you think you will get better grip on a wet road than you get with the 18 inch wheels.

I couldn't tell you the tyres but I had 18 inch rims (now in storage) on my D2 but they were definatly better ON road than the 16 inch wheels and tyres. My best improvement for on and off road handling was suspension after I went BFG KM2 245/75-16 (I bought my Disco second hand with a spare set of 16 inch wheels).

Great save on the brochure pedro, but to be fair it only covers the pre update models. Except for the Polar wheel all the options were different for the D2a update.
