Mechanic topped front diff with 80w gl4 non-ep...

Brought my car to a mechanic so he could replace the front diff oil seal... he said he also topped the oil half a liter... he used a 80w mineral gl4 non-ep...

My question is if this half a litter (non-spec) gl4 oil can cause problems and if I should drain it and renew with the 75-90 ep gl5???

    Thanks
edit: decided to drain and renew it.

a rover /p38 diff assuming its standard wont care much if you run anything from a straight 80wt through to 85/140 depending on ambient temp.

almost any 80/90 or equivalent will work in almost all conditions providing there are no contamination/reaction issues from the additives package or the mineral/synth bases.

straight 80 or straight 90 is, in my opinion better suited to lower ambient temps, and 85/140 only if your going to be regularly working in over 35 degrees ambient temps.
