Time to do the pinion seal on my 1999 D2. Can anyone tell me if the securing bolt in a 1999 D2 will be a nyloc nut or a castle with split pin?
Does anyone know the size of the nut so I can go and get a new one before I start the job?

Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Its a nyloc nut. you dont need to buy a new one you can use loctite 243/242 262/263 and use the old one. (you can also use the supercheap heavy duty thread locker)

I thought this was a straight forward job. What is the "difficult centralising pin" people are now talking about?
if you have the rubber donut in place of the rear UJ on the rear shaft its centralized by a small shaft that is a sort of press fit into the rear flange. it gets rustited in place over time and can be a bit of a pain to get out.
IF you're keeping the donut setup you cant afford to gouge the pin that goes into the middle of the donut.
Alternatively.
it could also be the centralizing pin in the middle of the DC joint up on the front prop shaft but thats got nothing to do with getting to the flange retaining bolt.
Right off the top of my head.. I think you need a 30mm socket for the flange nut but dont quote me that might be the Tcase end Im thinking of.

Wait, Aren't we talking about D2 front?
That's a bolt... which has a heavy washer under it.
I have two extras I bought new but didn't need as my new gears had nuts.
