    Poor mans front bumper modification

So, I was looking around last night and found on some forums that people have decided to modify there stock D2 front bumper for better approach angle. I've been wanting a steel bumper for this reason, however cannot afford it.

So today, I took out the Dremel and went at it!

    Before

    After

I think it looks pretty good especially considering the price, free! I will be adding a bash plate in the future when funds allow

Yeah well last time I went off-road, I hit a rut a bit hard and it pushed the bumper inwards, towards the wheels. I'm about to fit a set of 235/85 tires and they would have scrubbed as a result. So this sorts that out and as a bonus, the approach angle is a bit better. I think the factory plastic bumper goes too far down.

Pretty easy mod to do yourself, took me 45mins and most of that time was spent talking Land Rover talk to my Land Rover enthusiast friend who doesn't own a Land Rover.....

Done the same to my D1 as i encountered the same problem.
Stock the approach angle is horrible with all that plastic crap on there.
Hits on big bumps but also catches water when your hitting big puddles or river crossings.

I must admit i quickly threw away the plastics all together and went the steel bull bar as a replacement. (picked one up for $100) Gave me far more approach and a little something to bump the roos out the way should the need arise (which it does a lot!).

All that said it does look much better now with your modification.

Yeah well one day I will be wanting a steel bumper to be able to fit a winch, but for the time being this will do. I don't know why Land Rover decided to make the front bumper so large...maybe to help aerodynamics?(lol!)

lol yea. They must have been smoking some good weed in the smoke tunnel testing the aerodynamics on the disco range.
I have seen brick walls that rate better!

    Thumbs up

The previous owner of my 99 V8 had fitted a D2a front bumper which I've just chopped in the same way. Gives great access to recovery points also!
