    Doesn't Engage 4th Gear when cold

    I have been parking in a Park & Ride (car park fees in Melbourne too much) and when I get in the Disco to drive home I immediately pull onto the freeway. Driving at 100kms, I have been noticing the car will not change into 4th gear until it is fully warmed up. It is not until I have got off the freeway that it will finally get into 4th. I do about 10kms at speeds of 80 to 100 and even when the temp needle is in the middle it still does not change down and continues to rev in 3rd.




    Obviously car is an auto, I was wondering why this is when no gears or ratio's are affected when the car is driving from cold on normal roads ?

    Mine goes into lockup after about 7ks and all my driving to work is in 100kph zone country roads it is controlled by engine temperature on hot days it changes a little earlier

    I think it should change to 4th but not lockup in 3 and 4 until it is warm,Not sure though dosn't seem to get cold enough here.

    You'll probably find it is going into 4th gear, just not torque converter lock up , until warm (as mentions 7 or so Kay's depending on temp) lockup doesn't happen on normal roads (if that means suburban roads) until 80-85 kph so below normal lock up speed

    Discorevy, I presume the purpose of this programming is to get the Auto Fluid up to temperature as quickly as possible rather than being Engine Temp related.
