    ReGlueing Steering Wheel

    Hi all,
My steering wheel is starting to de-laminate away from the steel at the top.
When I had to road worthy my VR Commordore ute with same problem, the guy injected a glue, I suspect araldite or similar, into the foam and reglued it to the steel.
Anyone done that to a D2 wheel?
I can't find any threads about it so I suspect it's not common.

    Cheers
    Ralph

I bought locktight from Bursons, tell them what you want it for they get more than a few enquiries about this. You can get a s syringe, 10mL, and needle(s) from a pharmacy. I told them that I was going to inject marinade into a roast

Contact adhesive works well. Used it on many vehicles. Make sure whatever you use does not eat the foam.

The RAA guy who did my roadworthy the other day said to slice it open on the inside and fill it with super glue as that's what the trimmers use. I've yet to phone a trimmer to ask if that's the case.

    Steering wheel glue

There are specific glues that you can use to do this repair. Steering Wheel Fix | fix loose grip on steering wheel | Roadworthy again is one that I came across for $29 + postage; Locktite 480 is another.

Don't use superglue, as it is a brittle glue when dry; you need something that can flex. Apparently there is one that is flexible, but I've not come across it.

At a pinch, you can inject Sikaflex 227 into the steering wheel; this would be better than superglue. Don't cut the steering wheel surround; this is creating more work for no reason and there's no guarantee that you can get the two halves together again nicely. Inject the glue into the wheel, like the professionals who repair steering wheels do.
