    re-crimping trans cooler line swaging

    hello all,

regarding the transmission oil cooler lines which can pop off due to the poor swaging crimps; has anyone tried recrimping them to make them grip better?

Hydraulic crimpers are available quite cheaply, with various sized dies. One I've seen has an additional raised ridge around the centre of the die to dig in around the circumference of the crimp, which the original swaging doesn't seem to have.

I think you will be ok, I repaired mine with 2 hose clips as a temp. fix. ended up being on for 2 years no drama.

Secret is to fit the hose to the fitting dry, that is no oil on the barb.

    Cheers,

hi, thanks for your reply. I'm thinking more of a preventative measure to make the crimp hold better. They haven't come off yet.

Mine was a MY2000, I think later years didn't have the problem.
Re-crimping is probably a good idea, and if it still fails you will have the tool. You will still need 5 litres of AT oil handy.....

yep, it's certainly on my list of things to check when I get the vehicle, to see if they are loose.
