    Td5 odd problem

while I'm parked at traffic lights at idle my revs will momentarily drop down from its idle speed at 800rpm to about 400rpm as if it's about to stall, it does this 2 or 3 times every time I'm idling at traffic lights, it does not shut off but after about the 3rd time it happens the engine light will come on, and just yesterday I was driving home from somewhere and my car turned off as I was doing about 60kms, has anyone one else has this happen to their car and offer some advice as to what it might be? Thank you

Fuel pump? Maybe has a bit of the sludge in it.

The best woulod be to see the logged fault code, the symptom corroborated by the fact that the MIL came on makes the crank sensor the first suspect though, for fue supply issues there will not be any fault code logged

I'd go with crank position sensor. Reasonably common.
    No signal, no go.

i had read a few other threads and some people had similar problems that i am having but not quite the same making me think it was something else.

the threads i have read say it might not be the sensor but the wiring for the sensor that could be causing the problem, bad earth...?

i also pulled my red ECU plug off today and it was full of oil, i will replace the injector harness aswell and hopefully both together will solve my problem

AAAhaa, the oil in the red plug can cause that problem cos the input from the CKP sensor is in there and oil can act as insulator, also it causes injector open circuit fault codes so first of all replace the injector loom cos that might cure your problem, keep cleaning the red plug after that once a week after all the oil leaves the harness, if after that it still makes tricks work on the crank sensor signal(wiring or sensor itself)

okay ill try the injector harness first then if i still have the problem ill change the crank angle sensor. i posted a video of the same problem im having on the aulro facebook, and someone mentioned it might be a bad alternator or battery causing the car to almost stall while its idling.

The gist of all this thing is that only two components are throwing the MIL warning, the crank sensor and the TPS but the TPS would make it loose throttle not idle, you should make somehow to read the fault code to make sure
