    TD5 engine mount, jack position

    Hello all,
    I am getting ready to change the engine mounts. I'm wondering where on the sump the jack goes? or rather the wood that goes between the sump and the jack. How big a piece of wood? The biggest that will fit? As you may understand I am a bit nervous about damaging the sump. I seem to have two options, toward the front on the ridges (not so good I think) or towards the mid point, where the sump is smooth.

    It doesn't matter i did mine from the front with a block of wood standing vertically on my trolley jack and if you are doing both do the rhs first and leave the nut on top loose as it allows you more free play when doing the lhs

    I did mine when the sump was off and jacked against the side edge/wall off the block on the same side as the mount I was trying to change. You definitely need to be careful not to damage your sump, keep a close eye on everything as you jack. You kinda need to jack one side to make the engine tilt a little, I would use a block of wood that spans the length of sump front to back and place it to one side, on the bottom but under the side edge/corner where the sump is strongest. Spread the load over a reasonable area and avoid jacking in the middle of the sump where it is flat and weakest.

    on the ridges on mine . ridged areas are stronger , that's the reason they use them to strengthen steel sheeting ,fencing etc they would bend far easier without them
