Thanks John
I can now see more clearly your problem regarding relocating the axle/balance point of the trailer & am rather concerned about your planned trip with it.
I think you're going to be (unpleasantly) surprised when you measure the coupling weight with your full load on the trailer, including full water tanks etc.
The other alternative to relocating the axle would be to shorten the drawbar and relocate about half of the quad bike carrier to the rear of the van. The amount of the split would depend upon internal layout & loading of the camper and 'extra gear' could be loaded front or rear for each trip to achieve the desired/ideal tow ball weight. A fairly major engineering task and probably expensive but would result in a much better balanced setup. A well balanced trailer is also mu h easier to couple to the tow vehicle than one that is so heavy on the nose that it could cause back injury if you tried to lift it.
Much better to get it right before you leave especially as the last thing you'd want is for a major mishap with your trailer in a remote area (which you said you are going to) where there is no help available.

Well, I have seen some doozy trailer configs in my time but that takes the cake! As Extreme said only a radical redesign will get you what you are wanting. Seriously I would not be taking that on any other than a well formed road! Certainly not offroad. The ball weight will far exceed a D2s in anything other than a load of a doona and pillow(well, maybe not
) but you get my drift.
Cheers Scott

I have ordered a scale for finding the nose weight and it should arrive next week. It looks like I will have find somewhere else for my extra water. One positive is that when loading inside, it all goes behind the axle.I can also utilize the roof rack on the thing as well as one on the disco and put up with the extra fuel usage.I will at least get heaver rear springs and shocks. I have already fitted an extra spare tyre on the rear of the camper
