Out of curiosity, where does it show this?. fwiw its common practice on electronic controlled diesels to use fuel temp reading amongst others to advance injection timing when cold to compensate for the lower cetane rating of cold diesel ( this is one of the reasons you are more likely to hear diesel knock with cold engine) . the fuel temp sensor isn't the only sensor that won't bring on mil lamp when disconnected

When my D2a's ecu was remapped I was provided with a printout of all the settings from the diagnostic tool that was used to load the maps (possibly Autologic) which showed the FT sensor disabled. When I questioned this I was told by the person who did the remapping that all AU TD5 ecms have the FT sensor disabled. Hence my question as to which country, trying to establish whether or not the advice I received was correct for the Australian market.

That the WSM states that it is used is not conclusive because the WSM is incorrect in other respects so might only be used cold climate countries. EG the WSM states that the high coolant temp light in the temperature gauge is controlled by the ecm but it is not, it is turned on by the instruments ecu at a temperature derived from the same coolant temp signal (PWM) from the ecm that is deciphered by instruments to operate the needle.

No, it was in Europe/Hungary but i dont think it's relevant.... IMO the D2 Td5 management should be the same all over the world when we speak about standard fuel maps not modified ones... AFAIK Australian modells are included in UK types not even exports .... the builders from Solihull considered exports NAS, Korean, Japan and Canadian specs not Td5s for down under

IMO better not rely so much on the statements of those who are making a living from this kind of jobs ;)

The list of TD5 ecm maps is extensive and applicable only to various parts of the world. I would make no assumption that maps for Australian conditions are the same as European countries. I'll see if I still have the list.

The person who did the ecu map update operated a LR specialist workshop. I have no reason to discount his statement.

No NAS TD5s existed.

Edit: On a late 2012 parts catalogue all ecm part numbers for manual TD5 D2s supersede to a cooled EGR version or a non-cooled EGR version whilst ecms for autos supersede to 1 of 2 non-European or 1 of 2 European versions depending on country and VIN. My D2a was MY03 so at that time at least its quite feasible that the FT sensor was not used.

I can't argue on that, why dont you unplug your's and see if it makes a difference or not... IMO the fuel map versions should respect the overall addaptive strategy configuration as basics just eventually have some different settings for some elements not completely ignore them... though i'm not convinced of that just that i've never heard this FT sensor theory before...which doesnt mean it's not true :cool:

My D2s have long since gone so can't verify although I did have an adapter for a fuel pressure gauge fitted instead of the temp sensor but not for long enough to know if any performance characteristics had changed. Anyway as previously noted the clip from a fuel injector connector can be used, being the same connector.

We had to remove the inlet manifold to get to the FPR!!

In any case, the clip was found on top of the double cardon joint.
