Personally I'd repair it, even if it ended up needing a new motor.
At the very least, its a vehicle you know.
Well the td5 had been s5t the airport for 5 weeks.
Got in it fired up.
40 kms into the trip smelt hot oil.
No temp change.
Pulled up water leak.
40 kms to go
No phone range.
After 3 creek stops to top up.
Got it home.
Know it will not start.
Think the heads cracked in fuel galley.
What to do.
Fix or wreck..

What he said.
I have just had the same problem but due to the blasted oil pump bolt.
I looked on e-bay and got a really good td5 with 150.000 kms on it. I am very happy . I paid $2200.00 for it. I was quoted $6000.00 to have a rebuild.
I fitted the motor my self it took a week.
Just put new motor and radator in.
Less then 2000 kms

Argh! At least this one will take half as long!
I just think that if you replace the Disco, you're not necessarily going to be ahead with whatever else you get as somebody has decided the replacement wasnt worth their while anymore.

Bad luck about the 2000km old disaster. Find out exactly what has happened and then... I'd replace the head with UK/Spain sourced from Turners in UK, new head gasket and check the radiator and thermostat, and away!!!!
Cheers
