Not sure how to check Viscous Fan, will do some searches to find out.....

Think the Thermostat is relevantly new, however not totaly sure, If its not to hard to change, might see if I can get one somewhere between here and Brisbane. Just dont have any spare coolant etc.

Ive said it before, and Ill say it again, USE ONLY GENUINE THERMOSTAT!

I had a Britpart unit fail to open, giving my coolant temps into the 100's.

Swapped it for a genuine and not a problem, get the 82 Degree version if our worried about heat.

Thanks. Might see if there is a dealer between here and Brisbane.

I didnt know there was different ones.

Living in the tropics, having the thermostat open asap is a better thing I think

    Update

Well traveled up from Nelsons Bay to Byron Bay today.

Disco never went over 96 degrees C today.....

I had a scare yesterday coming off the beach at Stockton, there was water across the track and thinking it wasn't that deep proceeded to drive in. Before I knew it there was water across the bonnet and a quarter way up the windscreen.... I thought I was a gonner and killed the engine.

Just continue the other side, not notice a second hole, this time a little shallower.

I normally walk across creeks etc, this thing looked like a puddle......

There was a new Ford Focus with doors open and water dripping out from the interior....

I got out and checked everything out, No water got into anywhere... So was real lucky.

However one thing is its appeared to clean the Radiator, A/C and P/S coolers etc.

So I am wondering if this has help with the cooling.....

    Will still get thermostat etc.

Over heating under load, system is pressurising, a sure sign of a head gasket letting go, I sure hope it is the thermostat though, for your sake.
    Cheers Baz.

Would have been good to catch up..... I am still learning all about Discovery's etc....

Touch wood Discovery has not used any water etc and since the little dunk it has help with it now not running hot. However I haven't taken it on a beach run again.

Might see if there is somewhere I can take it too when back in Darwin to do head gasket as precaution.

    Thanks for that.

There was a guy in Winillie but he disappeared over night. i think someone else has taken it over now.

Undecided yet, but might try and do the head gasket myself.......

Today is the day the real trip starts.

I am in the Sunshine Coast and will head inland somewhere up to Longreach and then on to Darwin..... Only 3600 odd kms to go.......

if you can make it to threeways or beyond on a friday arvo I might be able to line up a weekend recovery for you if you let me know when you will be rolling through the area but im in darwin on the weekend of the29th.

I'll sling you my number in PM if you cant get to your PMs theres a handful of poeple in here who have my number that Im happy to have them pass it to you if you need it urgently.

I'm probably going to be surprisingly easy to convince to make a trip to darwin to give you a hand with what works you need, and while what I have here aint much if you want to make a stop in and have me throw mk I's at it you can consider that offer made.
