I miss my D2 as well!
I use Hawkeye, excellent and rugged too, what ever Diagnostic tool you get, well worth the money!
Cheers, Jerry
Have bunged up the photo in the D2 pics section
Here is the story.
Out of my 18 Landrovers in 16 years , our original 04 D2 Classic , Rioja Red? Black Interior (owned 06-09) was my favourite (Don't tell the Isuzu County and Series guys)
Last year I bought a D1 ( which is now near perfect mechanically) Soon for sale. keep an eye on the markets) because I wasn't ready to sell the County but had considered a D2.
Having decided to sell the County recently , it opened up the opportunity to buy a D2. I knew where our old D2 was and I recently tried to buy it back but to no avail.
Arriving home early from a wet Sydney gave me time to jump into the Markets section here and I went to look at the D2 in Thornbury , Vic. Nice car but a bit tatty inside.
I thought I should cross reference pricing and so jumped onto Gumtree.
An 04 Alveston Red HSE down in Tarneit was on there so I went to look.
Alveston Red and Black leather, I was gone
We agreed on $11000.
History is ; 247,000 km, traded in at MLR last year , bought by an MLR mechanic (here from OS on a 457) and given some love by him over the last 12 months. He had fitted, new suspension air bags , new sups air intake filter, new harness , new fuel regulator and gasket, new brakes and tyres , EGR by pas and has regularly changed the oils.
Spares included in my deal were; front and rear prop shafts , 1 x susp air bag , 1 x XYZ switch and a steering box. On the day I picked it up he also put in ; new engine , diff and transfer case oils and new transmission fluid. I watched him do it! Everything came out pretty clean.
The exterior and interior would both be 7-8/10.
It has some usual odd LR quirks including; a sticking fr passenger door, front power windows fuse blowing (fixed that), rear door driver's side handle doesn't open from inside( fixing that just need a small part), front sunroof has a whistle and is taped shut and fuse pulled , cargo area seats levers are broken but still kind of usable and it needs a rear bumper light ( on order )
Mechanical stuff could be ; autoIt's doing a few odd things but hopefully it just needs a good service. The prev owner admitted to not removing the pan or fitting a new filter. It's into A and B Autos asap and given the advice re cooling system checks and repairs that will happen soon after. Looking in through the front grille the core seems partially clagged with dirt and bugs and stuff. Hopefully buying a Hawkeye soon and I can review fault codes and see what the temps have been getting up to.
Anyway , that is the story of our new 04 HSE.
May it have a happy ending ( not always guaranteed)
Pete

Nice. I'm currently in the market for a TD5 D2a to replace my v8 d1, so seeing that you picked this up for a good price makes me jealous!!
1986 Range Rover Hiline
2004 D2 TD5
I'm not too excited yet 1250.
The auto gets checked out on Monday
Although I think the price was pretty good
The TD5 on here, in Thornbury seemed a pretty honest car.
Just the interior was a bit shabby
