    Changed the Transfer Case Oil

    Now that I have, what's the easy way to get the filler plug in? I have short fingers.

    The oil, all 1.5L that came out had a diluted metallic paint look. Not a good look. Very little on the sump plug magnet, which was sealed by what looked like plumbers tape.
    I'll be checking the oil in a few thousand Kms to see how it is.

    I put in Nulon semi synthetic 75W90

    I was going to change the gearbox oil, but my Torx 55 socket wouldn't fit past the transfer case cable.

    Unfortunately ether spin it in with your fingers or use your wobble bar.

    I wouldn't worry about a little sheen, pretty normal.

    The normal wear point is the centre diff planetary gear shims and they are bronze so will not be attracted to the magnet.

    Well the oil did have that bronze look to it. Although as it flowed into the collecting basin, it was clear and a red colour. As I can't change the gear box oil, I might change the diff oil, it's not due for another 40,000 kms but the diffs have the nice brass filler plugs, so that job should be ok.

    Transfer cable?
    You don't need a torx bit to undo the filler plug on the R380. A garden variety 8mm Allen key will do the job. You will need a length of small NB tube around 300mm long for leverage. Never had a problem with this method.

    Hi Bohica,
    Nominal Bore, a small piece of tube that goes over the 8mm Allen key. The plug is pretty soft so make sure you have the Allen key fully engaged or you will end up with either trying to get mole grips on the plug or a small chisel trying to get the plug out. New plug around $11 on Ebay.
