    BIG Torque Wrench

Does anyone in Melbourne area (pref northern or eastern suburbs) have one? Or even point me in the right direction. I need to do front hub this weekend and don't have one big enough to torque down the nut (490 Nm).

    Thanks in advance!

you need a 1M long bar on the end of your socket.

you need 490 Newtons of effort at 1m from rotation

490Newtons is near enough 50KG so grab a big fish scale and pull 50 KG on at 1m with the bar verticle when you do the final read.

    a 2M center needs 25 KG.

dont have a scale that does that?

    get the bar horzontal.
put your bathroom scales under it
stand with on foot on the bathroom scales.
put the other foot on the bar when the scales back off the requried amount of weight (you weigh 75 KG when you have 50KG on the bar the scale shows 25kg) But becareful you dont lean on anything or go too far off center.
you only have about 15 degrees of motion from horizontal (or perpendicular pull if using fish scales) before you need make adjustments for the effective change of radius. Dont forget to make a guestimation to offset the load the extension bar puts on the handle

Solved with torque multiplier. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Dave the scales suggestion is very clever indeed!
