Finally got around to removing and cleaning. Yep, that did the trick it appears. Was really black and had to use a small wire brush to clean it up ...

... and the thread in the top hose survived ! Phew !!

Thanks! Wish all Land Rover fixes were that easy.

Hey, I found rescue tape can hold the top hose together if the thread collapses, at last the 750km from Barrow Creek to Uluru it lasted for me when I had a chance to replace the hose!

I'm sure if you have some on hand, it would do the trick long enough for you to get a replacement.

    Hello Fluids

Earthing the sensor wire for the water sensor should tell you if it is the sensor or the module that is causing the problem.
If the water alarm stops when you earth the sensor wire, then it would be the sensor that is the problem.
If the alarm keeps sounding when the sensor wire is earthed, then the module is the problem.

    Cheers,

    Jason

I had a bit to do with these enginsavers,I ran the top hose prototypes for Davy in my TD5 D2.
The issue is the hoses will conduct an earth trace and trigger the alarm. It took several goes at getting the sensor right. We put it down to some sort of graphite mold release used in the hose manufacture.Have a mess around with a multimeter, surprise surprise rubber can conduct electriggery,ONLY IN A LAND ROVER THAT ALSO LEAKS OIL FROM AN ECU
I would say Kevs sensor was dirty enough to bridge the earth.
You only need to finger tighten the sensor, even the factory one wasnt designed for tool tightening.

Yeah Andrew ... Finger tight !! The black crud on the sensor didn't "wipe" off like folks said who replied to my original post ... I scrubbed it with a piece of denim cloth, nope! Took to it with a small fine brass wire brush .... Ahhhh, shiny!! Took a bit of effort to clean the black coating off ... Must be some reaction going on with the OAT and the various metal components in the cooling system.

Been thinking about this, and I put mine in before our big trip to the centre, which was in 2012. Haven't had it out except to purge the air from the system. Never had to clean it, coming up to 4 years now.

You got there though. By polishing, I meant with wet'n'dry.
