body lift on a discovery 2

I want to do a 1 or 2" body lift to my discovery 2. Can some one advise me how bigger gob this is and what do I do with the gear lever and the high/low lever and how much of a job is moving the rad's etc.
I would like to have a chat with some one who has done a body lift and i will be happy to pay for the call.

Why not do a suspension lift instead?

Just be aware it is not legal to body lift a SRS equiped vehicle in WA.

Have a search on this topic, there are a few threads already on the subject, I was researching the same topic the other day, be aware that everyone will be more than happy to "inform" you of its legalities LOL.

    Hi Terry,
I did a 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift. Yes I am in WA and at the time didn't realise it was illegal.

If you take the legalities out of it there were so many little things that caught me out, you had the obvious stuff like brake lines and steering column extension, exhaust was interesting and I never stopped the rattle / hum it developed. I machined up an extension for the small gearstick to it looked normal again. I would seriously consider the reason you are actually doing this.

Power steering hoses burst, at the time I didn't realise how much tension had been put on them, I thankfully checked the transmission cooler lines before they broke. Also developed a fuel leak between the fuel tank and the chassis, this required replumbing the fuel pipes . One good thing is that the radiator got lifted above the top hose so it is easier to bleed.
Afterwards the vehicle just looked odd, bull bar further away from the body work, rear bumper also looked oddly lower than it should do.
If I was in the same mindset now I would have done the 50 mm suspension lift first and checked to see if that satisfied my needs. On a later vehicle that was what I did and was relieved I didn't go down the same track again. Also the body roll increased significantly even with the new shocks I also had to buy.

My advice would be to give it some thought first and add u what you are going to end up spending you might be surprised how much it will cost.

My old Discovery with the 2 inch body lift was recently up for sale in Perth on Gumtree if you could find it. On SJ plates, I know all the little issues on that one had been sorted. However I sold it not long after doing the lift.

    Cheers Marty

    Hi Terry,

I'm assuming that you are referring to "Amy". As is, the D2 currently has a 2" lift and will easily take 235/80R16 for a bit more height. It could do with fitting some extended bump stops, especially for the rear.
Another clearance improvement would be swapping out the ARB bar for a Xrox style tube bar.

    Cheers

X rox. More clearance and looks cool but if you are touring, less protection from the wild life so just consider your usage beforehand. Unless of course x rox now cover lights and grill.

For a standard lift yes you can. You can get 2" extended air bags and you can also block it out another 2" if you want more. Plenty of info in the forum if you search. OP is talking about a body lift in this thread however.

Excuse the question: extended Airbags? Do you have a Name or Link? Thank you!
