I did my auto box last night/today. When I undid one of the bolts for the sump yesterday, the spacer under it was split. Went to the wreckers today and picked up a replacement as well as a couple spares and finished the job. Nice smooth shifts now![]()
On about the fourth attempt, I was successful. I did not have the correct tools. Today when I had the 55 torx, and the 150mm extension and the universal joint, the fill plug came of easy.
I had to go out and buy a 32mm ring spanner as my socket would not fit the drain plug. What is it with LR and these bolt sizes? why not use the same plugs as the transfer case?
The oil, warm, gushed out and made a mess on the floor (road) I let the gearbox drain and about 2.1 L came out. I've put in 2L but forgot the copper washer, so I guess I will have to repeat this process next weekend. Unless I get no oil leaks.
At least now I know what to do.
Cheers

I'd replace the washer, asap. Also something to think about, the transfer case and gearbox oils should be replaced every 24,000 miles or 2 years. Good idea to replace both at the same time, then get into a routine of replacement at the recommended intervals. As a matter of course, I also replace my diff oils at the same time, except if I have been doing deep water crossings, at which time I change diff oils more frequently.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
