The local tyre place has a simple piece of welding rod, with the end bent into a hook. They have no trouble getting the caps off the LOCKING Wheel nuts. and as mentioned before, you don't need to remove the covers from the non locking nuts to removed them with your wheel brace. If you still have locking nuts, turf them, and replace the lock nuts with non locking to match the others, no one is going to jack up all 4 wheels and steal disco wheels ( they wont fit a toyota or pootrol) Then you'll have piece of mind if you get a flat out in the never never ,that you will be able to undo the nuts

I have been down this track. I made a mistake of grabbing a 28mm socket from the tool box. A 12 point (?) socket will slip on the wheel nut cover and bend the cover. This makes it impossible (without a gentle bump from a hammer) to then fit the required 27mm socket to remove the wheel nut. Yep, ordered a new nut (for the wheel, not my head).
