Why retain the original amp? Most new headunits these days would produce more power than the OEM amp ever will.
Because I've had no issues with it and have been happy enough with the sound quality and volume of it - bearing in mind that my D2a with it's modifications is not quiet on the road so spending money chasing better sound is pointless over the diesel motor, tyre whine, wind on the roof rack, etc.
The supplied crossover box should be tuned for the three speakers and their ranges. To not use it starts to defeat the purpose of purchasing speakers of that quality if just going to feed them any signal.
Why not then, run a set of 6" splits (6 in the door and tweeter in factory location, then run an additional 4" coaxial in the other door location.
Most cheaper splits only run a capacitor as a basic x-over anyway. You may find that the OEM x-over is equally as basic.
