What's that Hell of a loud noise?

I drove into my street to be greeted with a hell of a load noise, it was enough for neighbours down the road to look for it's origin.
It was like some one was sawing a big load of timer or grinding concrete, I slowed down and had a look around and then continued to drive, it was when I tried to turn into my driveway that I had no steering assistance that I began to realise the source of the noise was my Disco!

Upon lifting the bonnet, I straight away spotted my belt tensioner was sitting out at a 45deg angle. Damn I thought, the tensioner had gone.
I wasn't until I took the tools out to unbolt the tensioner that it became evident that it was not the tensioner, but the bracket that holds the tensioner and alternator had cracked and gave way. I presume after inspection that some one at some time has over tightened the retain bolt of the tensioner and cracked the bracket. ( which I might add is pretty thin in the wall thickness from factory) Hairline cracks from yonks ago were evident and it just went bang the other day.
Luck it happen 100 meters from home and not elsewhere.
A quick phone call to outback1 , Kenny, had one in the post the next day. Thanks Kenny.

the mechanics dilemma. Do I go hard at it and hope it doesnt strip or break or do I take it easy and hope it doesnt wiggle loose?

I'm not sure that a nimble loan is enough

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

5 minutes to access the belt tensioner and so on, just had the water pump done last week, not expensive at all, 2hrs all up, that included a chat and test drive.

Sometimes it feels like being on a Toyota forum in here.
    Cheers Baz.
