Which Disco 2's have diff lock?

    Hi,

My son is looking at disco 2's.

Which ones have the centre diff lock internals?

Ideally would be one with the whole setup, but fitting the switches to early one with the internals is a job within our skill base.
Fitting internals sounds like a job best avoided.

We are just trying to find out which ones we should be looking at?

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

Pre update have the mechanism in the transfer box but not linkages from MY99-MY01. You can add the linkages and have a working CDL with these ones.

Late MY01-02 have no CDL in the transfer box and obviously no linkages either - I would advise that you actually check for the CDL spigot on any MY01 vehicle.

MY03+ do have CDL in the transfer box and come with factory linkages.

    D2a Face lift

The D2a face lift has the CDL fitted and connected. This is the D2a, note the different headlights compared to the D2 and D1

    Cheers

I would think by now that most would have them fitted anyway, no?

When I went shopping around for a Disco 2, most of them DIDN'T have it fitted. From memory only two vehicles out of the couple dozen I saw actually had the retro-fit done. It didn't matter in the end as I couldn't find a decent D2 so ended up grabbing an immaculate late model D1 instead.

This one http://www.aulro.com/afvb/vehicles-s...rmanhurst.html is an early 2001 model and it has the centre diff lock mechanism but no linkages to engage/disengage it.

"But where would one find an immaculate D1"

Totally fluked it. After getting discouraged looking for a decent D2, I happened to see the rear part of a Disco hiding at the back of a caryard on the way to an Aunty's place. I went in the next day and although it wasn't ready for sale I was allowed to have a look anyway.

It was a country car with one elderly owner and had done less than 10,000km per year. Interior was immaculate but it had been sitting unused for a year (they bought a D4) so some preventative maintenance was required. It pretty much drives like a new car. I have since done some minor mods to it and have been very happy with my choice.

Last month I took it on a 3 week, 11,500km trip up the top end in blistering heat and it didn't miss a beat - actually I tell a lie, I had to put a cable tie on the drivers side rear mudflap as it had a small split..... (which I split around the same time last year on a Pilbara trip)
