What a great idea!, as long as the exhaust down pipe is cold.

Finally finished the head job on the TD5 yesterday after months apart, took her for a test drive to a local boat ramp about 8ks away, i popped the bonnet at the ramp to see diesel spraying from the FPR, no spanners with me so i headed home and hoped for the best, Nope! ran out of fuel about 3 Ks from home, all sorted now with the help of my wife and daughter, ended up being a loose fuel pipe and it dumped about 15 litres of fuel all over the place.
The Td5 is running well now it's a idles lot sweeter than it was, probably the injector seals helped, I also did the starter solenoid, fuel cooler, aux belt, made the main harness respectable again and fitted a Provent and a few hoses also.
One thing i am disappointed in is my windscreen plinth? [bottom thingee], it was perfect before i started and now it's cracked from me leaning on it, I took the bonnet off and the front wheels and let her down as far as i could and still i stuffed it.
Next time i'll make a timber rail that runs from guard to guard so i can rest my arm on it

And there it is.. 150k on the way to buy a big breaker bar,17mm socket and a can of Loctite freeze release, so I can give it a service...
I re fitted the intercooler today, a painful job taking it out and putting it back. I also removed the EGR actuators, and piping. The electrical connections were removed by a previous owner. The EGR hole on the exhast manifold had been blanked off. The next job is to remove the EGR valve, as soon as I replace my lost 8mm socket.
I lost the bolt that attaches the intercooler bracket to the car body. An m8 x 16.
As I have fitted a Provent. I will need to clean the intercooler in about 380,000 kms. The engine has 310,00kms on it. I think that an intercooler flush is unlikely.
Sunday 31st December update. The EGR valve is out.
