So after putting the new shoes on Crumby on Saturday, on Sunday I did a contra deal with a mate at Bonnyrigg and changed the Rad and put an 82 deg thermostat in, took him for a drive to North Narrabeen for dinner, the barb on my old Rad was broken when I inherited Crumby from the sister, it’s been JB Welded 2 or 3 times, it just fell out when we touched it 😰, it must have been pretty blocked only got between 1 1/2 and litres of coolant out when we drained it.

i found the torque figures for the oil cooler pipe union, although I am damned if I know how you would get a torque wrench there for either.
Tech Bulletin LT 307-001 04 July 2005
Align/install the oil cooler pipe into the oil cooler and securing clamps to the transmission.17Tighten the oil cooler securing clamps, nut and bolts to 10Nm (7lbf-ft).18Tighten the oil cooler union to the transmission to 25Nm (18lbf-ft).19Clean away any oil spillage.20Lower the vehicle on the lift.21 CAUTION: Remove any installed conn
They have to be tightened more than most think.

It’s because the design bottoms it and the seal face is ID to OD.
Are you lubricating them before assembly?
Couple of other details from a little maintenance today on my 2002 TD5 auto 219KK.Attachment 169916Attachment 169917
The first is the amount of oil from about10Kk of running. Add say 5MM for spillage. I have a copy 150 catch can with a stainless filter, but it seems to work well. I have deleted the depression valve from the catch can and only use the original
Second is coolant level drop from black dot when filled 20/2/20. I reckon that is pretty good considering about 5-6Kk towing in hot weather including the climb from Bellingen to Dorrigo . Have topped up again today.
I also gave a squirt of contact cleaner to the MAF, MAP, and red plug and no oil in red plug. That is about 5 years so they must have improved the injector harness sealing.
Oh also changed the oil in my air compressor after 15 years and drained the tank . These Chinese ones don't last they say. Only problem in 15 years was pressure switch diaphragm breaking and replaced with inner tube. It seems to go faster now.

Not consciously but there is always lots of oil around there.Quote:

I will if there is a next time, but currently it looks OK.
Its pretty easy to change the oring. I checked the tightness today on both and also on the FPR end of the diesel return hose, but I have been concerned by overtightening and now see no need to worry. 18 Ft lbs is tight with the access they (don't) have

Got the radiator overflow nipple done - expoxied a brass barb fitting as suggested. Seems to be really solid.
Will give it an oil and transmission change tomorrow so family have use of it over Easter.
SLS compressor kit looks like it's got the car levelled up nicely as well.
We went through the Thomson River, below the dam, the steering got very heavy. On the other side there was a couple of almighty squeals. The aux belt has a very shiny flat side. Plenty of steering fluid, battery light DID NOT go on. The has run fine since. I’ll be buying a new belt along with engine for the service on Wednesday. The belt is genuine LR part. There are black bits on the idler pulley. Any ideas why it did this?
