It's a harmonic balancer.
Doing my brakes. Back was fine. Started on fronts and discovered one of my wheel nuts seem to be larger than the others. Every one on the back and passenger side front was 27mm as expected. 4 on the drivers front are 27mm but the wheel brace won't fit on one. Measured it with a set of verniers and it comes in at 28mm. Can I find a 28mm socket anywhere? Certainly not in the Blue Mountains. I could drive to Penrith for a 2hr round trip. I could try to hammer the brace on to the nut but then how do I get it out of the socket. Looks like I need a set of new wheel nuts.

No. It looked exactly the same as all the others. Just for some reason 1mm thicker. I got a cheap 27 mm socket and hammered it on then used a breaker bar. Now I have to get it out of the socket. I'll take it to work and see what the maintenance blokes can do. I'm going to order a set of nuts so I can replace it and keep a few spares. The wheel it was on had a seized caliper hence the reason for doing all the brakes now. Even the caliper slides were stuck. I had to get a screwdriver and hammer and tap them out. They are now well greased and free moving. Rears weren't far off needing to be changed anyway.
No bag with brace. I had to use my own. No jack handle either. I made one out of a length of pipe with a notch cut in the end to turn the release. The jack was where it was meant to be though. I found that 12 months ago when I was having battery and alternator problems.
You put the nut in a vice loosely., with the socket resting on the jaws, then you whack a drift smaller than the 1/2 inch square drive onto the end of the nut.
