I tried 2 V8 TCU, IGG 000 010/IGG 000 040 (high comp 4.0) and both had the over sensitive kickdown issue so reverted back to Td5 controller.

What did you adjust and did it stop/reduce the sensitivity ?

I'm starting to think the later Td5 TCU that locks at 80 instead of 83 (I don't like risking speeding fines to get it to lock) coupled with a lower stall torque converter may be the better bet

PM Shack here. He's a genius when it comes to this stuff. All I did was upload a tun file and the difference is amazing. Well worth the effort.

I'll try to accurately describe my issue with the V8 trans ecu.
As already said, around town and even on some freeways where 70k/h is about max speed due to say roadworks or heavy traffic .. no problem and awesome option to consider with a mapped TD5(can't say with a std tune TD5 tho).

TC locks at 60 in 4th with gentle peal input after a while stays locked with gentle acceleration(say 10-20% pedal input) no worries. Same at speeds up to about 70-ish .. can accelerate a bit to maintain momentum or whatever.

Trying to use the cruise at about 80 adn above is where the 'drama' happened. I mean drama as in the sensitivity became extreme as if it entered Sport mode automatically or something. Sport mode was even more sensitive again!
More than say 5% pedal input would see TC unlock. Using cruise control for the same situation would have it kickdown into 3rd too. Absolutely no need .. there was no stress on the motor/TC or Gbox. These gentle uphills I mean maybe 50 m rise in 1klm of road.
My D1 tdi can accelerate up and maintain 4th locked.

So I chatted with Shack, and he supplied me with a tun file to see if it helped.
This is also where I discovered that I have 3 VIN numbers! .. ahhhh .. bloody VIN numbers. (Body, BCU and ECU)

SO finally got the VIN correct uploaded the tun file and the difference is, as described to Shack) .. amazing.
How easy to mod a vehicle(sorry I'm new to computery vehicles, so new experience).
I get all the ECU tuning stuff, but the ability to alter the characteristics of the trans behaviour is also awesome to have access too.

So before, where I hit this freeway and it's gentle undulations that even a tdi can conquer with no stress .. totally stressed the TD5 and v8 TCU combo .. with Shacks help this is now gone.
I can easily accelerate up this gentle rise with say 5 taps of the CC button and get just acceleration from the vehicle, not just mad revving from the motor to achieve same speed.

Mind you I don't speed, and as described to Shack .. a bit of a granny type driver, I am. [biggrin]

Further up this freeway(which I do every day to get to work) .. there is a slightly more demanding rise. Tdi can't accelerate locked in 4th but can easily hold 80k/h and stay locked with nearly 75% pedal usage. I have the kickdown cable backed off a fair amount on it too.
before Shacks help I had to back off from 100k/h(on the downhill run to the rise) to about 90. . maybe 85 .. otherwise it'd just unlock or kickdown).
Now with Shacks help.. I held a steady 90 till the bottom of the dip and then tried to hold steady or accelerate. It got to 120k/h at the top of the rise locked and no kickdown.
Unlock and kickdown are still there is required too tho. I did three runs at this section(easy to get on and off) and gently pressing pedal progressively doesn't send it into sensitive mode. If you press say the 'same amount of pedal' but more quickly(ie. stab) it still unlocks(didn't get kickdown tho).

With my newfound experience of this ECU-ing electrickery .. for this particular situation(td5 and v8 TCU combo) talk to Shack .. he'll sort it for 'ya [thumbsupbig]

of note, and why all this has been a bit tedious for me with this new project ..
With the original TCU around town this TD5 was so loud and obnoxious(to me) even compared to the unrefined D1 TDi.
Poor old girl has a manifold leak(broken stud) and no rear muffler .. and I suspect the centre muffler is a bit open too. It growls, barks, gruffs, huffs, drones ... and all that stuff through it's exit pipes .. all 6 of them I suspect.(ie. 5 at the manifold and the solitary at the rear. [biggrin])

So this is one of the other jobs that I will get around to sorting .. where bro just ignored for 5 odd years(and I think it's coming up to 6 now).

My Td5 controller is also IGG 100 010, this is one of the early 83 km/h lockup ones.

I have MSB ecu so no tun/map file fun, unless I work out how to read and program socketed chips.

Spool up is also the reason I am using the wrap, the turbo from DD is slightly larger than other VNT turbo's for TD5's (another risk lol) and any gain in the performance of the manifold will have a corresponding benefit to getting it to spool quicker and if it does it will give me the low down torque I am after. The turbo by the way is a GTB2260VK and not the 2056 it would appear other TD5 VNT turbo's look to be.

Sorry this is not meant to open discussion in this forum feed regarding SS manifolds, just a reply to your experience and as to why I still choose to go this way after reading of similar experiences with the ebay manifolds which I do not regard as comparable to the DD manifold. Again, if I am wrong and it goes tits up, you can all say "I TOLD YOU SO" !!!

Hey John,

I have a spare TD5 EU3 controller (IGG 000 070) that you could try out if your V8 Low Comp one doesn't work out.

This is the one I would probably use if towing.

This controller with a 125Kw+ ECU tune with a HD Torque converter and a healthy trans would be ideal for towing.

PM if you want to try it...
