What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

they have them for less than $300.

They're Brisbane based. I got his rear door fibreglass replacement doodad. very strong, much stronger than original plastic type.
More than happy with it, other than they never specified that the original rubber grommet, between plastic handle, and door panel can be used on their f/glass replacement version.
The added thickness of the f/glass handle doesn't allow the mechanism to operate correctly.

Also with the binnacle. I painted the D1's binnacle when I fibreglassed the retaining tabs to secure it. everything else was fine, just the pesky tabs ... as per usual.
So while it was off, I thought better to paint it semi flat black.

the grey annoyed me a lot when driving into bright light sources, where a grey washed out windscreen reflection would persist. Having it low sheen and black now, makes a black void in the reflection of the grey dash. It's so obvious it's quite funny to see it.
That is, I can see the reflecting grey dash top either side of the binnacle, but black binnacle doesn't.

My Peugeots have the worst dash reflections tho .. entire view outside is next to useless in any bright light sources.

So I had my 2000 D2 td5 in for a major service with a good indi landrover workshop in SEQ. Picked it up Saturday and drove almost an hour home.
Stopped in the driveway to sort out gates and dogs, got back in to start again and....lights but no start, not even a starter click.
After some quick battery and fuse checks, we pushed the disco to its spot in the carport so the other half could get her car off the street.
Turns out it was just a loose connecter for the starter solenoid on the starter.
Minor problem in the scheme of things, but if this had happened anywhere else it would have been a major PITA.
So I just tweaked the connector and cleaned off some oil, made sure the connector was firm on the connector tab, and cross my fingers it doesn't happen again.

Reminded me of when I got the disco back from engine exchange and it immediately started leaking from the infamous green fuel line.

could just be coincidence, but never know. They are bleedingly obvious, but maybe a mech had it on a hoist and just checking stuff and accidentally knocked it a tad and it became touchy.

But speaking of happening elsewhere and major PITA, happend to brother when we went on a trip out bush to Vic high country.
Spent the day getting into Wonnangatta, drove here and there a bit for a couple of days. when we departed to head out, on some very steep tracks out. he stopped for some reason(why on such a steep incline) ... and same happened.
Had he been on his own, he'd have had to reverse down about 500m with no brakes(remember car can't start) to get it on a less steep grade. handbrake wouldn't hold D2 on the grade. I parked my D1 over the side a bit to get out, get under and check starter.
I had same problem that D1 wouldn't stay still on this grade, so had to somehow lessen the grade. But same problem, just solenoid wire not tight enough on the connector.

For any one else just google Discovery 2 binnacle and you will find plenty. EBay is a major source.

I noticed this, yesterday, when accelerating hard to enter the free way. The misfire kicked in at a shade over 3000 rpm.

Things to check.

Injector loom, this was changed about 4 years ago, the plug/socket part was covered with Sikaflex. I'll check that red plug on the weekend
MAF, I have a mild tune, I'm not sure if the MAF is used. I can disconnect that and test.

What else?

any errors via nanocom?

Fuel cut from overboosting (either wastegate stuck or the modulators stuffed) maybe but suspect that'd happen earlier

I'll check the Nanocom, inlet air pressure, .
I'm thinking with over boost, the car goes into limp mode and has to be turned on and off to clear it. This a miss then a hit then another miss

yeah, I think this is the std procedure for when the modulator packs it in.

If there are no errors in nancom, try logging for a bit and attempt to replicate the issue. Something will hopefully come up.

When the modulator failed on mine it never went into limp mode, just cut the fuel. Felt like a learner learning to use a manual
