What I found odd, and almost didn't believe it but the numbers didn't lie is the coolant temps spike less on a climb and actual head temps are on average lower just from removing the EGR cooler.
Hmm I noticed that my dry head temperature sender seemed to react to airflow from the radiator ie on cool days the head temperature went down.
I encased the sender, which is located on the front bolt of the top radiator hose/sender housing in a big blob of Blue Tac to insulate it .
This seemed to give a more accurate reading of the actual head temperature.

My guess is that the surface where your sender is placed is now being cooled by cooler air through the radiator seeing the EGR cooler is not there. My cooler is still there as is the pipe from the exhaust manifold which is blocked at the manifold end.
    Regards Philip A

I'm pretty sure my thermocouple is at the rear of the head, the previous owner fitted it but it could still be influenced by the change in air flow in the engine comartment.
Head temps are lower by about 4-5K.

Coolant temps when hill climbing are spiking much, much more slowly than prior and not peaking as high.

The next mod is to block the bleed from the oil cooler back to the expansion tank as per the last of the D2a's.

Things happen slowly on this car, it doesn't get used much and come a day off I'm well and truly over doing tech type stuff.

    Some hard earned TLC

After an epic 36 000 km continent spanning adventure, we landed in Tasmania and now I have a job and a house again, Gary is getting the TLC he needs after the adventure (Thanks Mario for the big care package).

    This weekend:
    - New front discs and pads. Was getting uneven wear on the front right and had a flat spot on the front left. Guide pins are greasy and free moving so not sure of the cause. Going to change our the drag link (ball joints a little sloppy) and get a wheel alignment and see what that does.
    - Pulled out the screw I found in the front left tyre while doing the above. Leak plugged. These Falken Wildpeak's have been great through 40 000 km of some pretty serious terrain. Would buy again.
    - A very thorough clean out of the interior. Will be finding red dust forever still.
    - Reduced tools and spares kit from remote desert adventure size (two boxes) to work commute and weekend adventure size (one box).
    - Replaced o ring in leaky fuel cooler.
    - Replaced waste gate modulator valve and un-bypassed. All the power is back!
    - Oil change, including finally helicoiling the centrifugal filter cover bolt hole. Every time I change the spin on filter I feel both dismay that an engineer decided to put it where it is, and pride that I know the exact combination of body movements to make to get it out and refit.
    - Greased Uni's
    - Test drove with a big smile.

Still have a long list to do but feels good to be making my way though it.

Will probably be back around the forums more now.

As George Karellas would say - get stuck in, and good luck!

Finally, free time and good weather aligned perfectly(yesterday) and had the chance to pull the radiator out of my V8. Will post pics in a new thread.
Brother came around to bum about, went to get his fan spanner out of his D2(Td5), rear door got stuck(wouldn't open/unlock).
Time that was supposed to be spent doing extra work on my D2, was lost replacing his rear door lock, and handle.

So kind'a killed two birds with the one nice day and free time period!
    Arthur.

Finally had the Disco out for the weekend. This has been the worst year for this vehicle by far.

After finally getting on top of all the maintenance items that had been outstanding, the big end bearing went on the first weekend out of the satisfied feeling of 'done'. Ha ha ha. So flatbed back to Melbourne and a new engine put in. Next weekend the fuel line blew and sprayed diesel all over Brunswick road. Had the fireys out and ruined my Friday morning. Back on the flatbed.

Few weekends after that the oil cooler pipe blew and sprayed all my trans fluid onto the Princess Highway. Flatbed to Melbourne, pipes fixed and trans fluid put back in. Then, next highway trip the trans was playing up and wouldn't go into 4th. Taken to ZF specialist and it had to be rebuilt. Got it back and the trans played up by the time I got home. Had to take it back driving the back streets stuck in 1st gear.

Second rebuild completed and got her back Friday. First successful round trip to the country for almost 6 months! Got home and there seems to be an oil leak from transfer case. This is pretty annoying as the transfer case was rebuilt and resealed 10 months ago.

I've been stalking this forum for such a long time, and not really needing to post because 'it's all been done before'. But I figured I should really start paying for the privilege and properly join the community. Gotta pay your buck'o five!
