not today, but the last two days:
Did a bit of a service on brothers TD5, changed coolant on the weekend. Had glycol in it, I have some HOAT, and of course after the flush and change to HOAT the fuel cooler and waterpump started leaking.
So last few days between work, I've been helping bro(actually he's helping me) change WP and fuel cooler o rings.
Fuel cooler was easy nuff, but waterpump!!
No way we could get the old WP out without taking the high speed oil filter housing off.
Brother bought himself a Pro Flow branded waterpump. But he didn't realise that he already bought a waterpump long ago(as a precaution) and this first one was a Bearmach branded one.

While i had the two different waterpumps in hand, there was a very slight obvious difference in their respective sizes, the impeller on the Bearmach was ever so slightly more inward into the body of the pump.
Quick rough and cut measurement of each .. just against each other showed that both the impeller shaft and the keyway shaft were both about 2mm or so shorter .. and it's the two shafts that make getting the pump out between the bracket and oil filter housing 'impossible'.

So the oil filter housing was bolted back up, just to see if the Bearmach WP would slip in between the bracket and filter housing ... with a small twist of the pump body, it slipped in no worries!
Slipped back out, tried the ProFlow branded one, and after about 5 mins of trying to slip that one in, gave up.

So we used the Bearmach branded WP(he already had).
Hopefully we'll never have to do WP again .. ever!!! .. but that's just a comment on the experience in getting whatever pump was already installed, looked quite original, but not sure.
A6t least we know that with the BM pump now in, if it needs doing, you don't have to strip the entire engine of all it's ancillaries just to do the waterpump.
    Arthur.

You do know that there is an oring between the water pump/power steering bracket and the block I hope.

I found it easier to remove the whole bracket and attack from the front which also enabled changing the "secret" oring between the bracket and block.
You do not have to disturb any filters.

If the shaft of the Bearmach water pump is shorter than the other one , that means less engagement with the dogs on the back of the power steering pump.
    Regards Philip A

    O-ring now has me worried.
Pumps(both) came with their 3 o-rings stuck on them, but I never saw any other o-ring separate to what the pumps had, and what the old pump had on removal.
Need to check for any missed O-ring now.
You say between pump/pwr str bracket and block .. as in engine block. I didn't want to disturb the seal between that bracket and the engine block, so it never came up as an option to remove.
Leak was from the weep hole.

The difference in shaft lengths was only 2mm or so on each side, front slot definitely engaged properly into the rear of the pwr str drive. Pulled it back a few mil just to be sure, and still engaged.
I(estimated) it needed close to 10mm backward travel to not be engaged(if that makes sense).

The only thing that 'has me worried' a little is the tendency for folks to rotate waterpumps straight out of the box. And I reckon brother did a few times on both the pumps he bought.
I remember someone here claiming that a lot of folks do that too(I used too) and that doing so could wear the seal, as it's requires some lube from the water/coolant.

I had to leave for work, so was rushed for time, but bro was left to finish off what he could.
One stuff up he perpetrated was that he fitted the fuel lines backwards. On fitting them the right way around, and the forward quick release fitting(squeeze fitting) wouldn't seat properly.
Fuel line popped off on first start, refitted it and stayed put. So I'm not 100% sure what he did there, but he then drove around a bit, took it to pressure wash place to give it a good blast, and he reckons no worries .. no coolant or fuel leaks.
    Arthur.

Yes , the only reason I knew about was an earlier thread .
It is a "square" oring that fits in a recess in the bracket.

    Yeah, thanks Philip.
I did do a search last night, and found it via LRCat.
I'm 99.9% sure it's not leaking, but will keep an eye out for it now.

It's a bit like the P-gasket on a 300tdi, in that it's a hidden part, that would drive the uninitiated beserk trying to locate a 'mysterious' leak!
