Thread: What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Now I am intrigued.... priority 849 - reconfigure Td5 thermostat and cooling system...

Why? Oh why?! do I read these threads.... why do I think I have more knowledge and resources than a LR engineer.......

Big horse day today so loaded up the float and car..all good.

Started up the D2a and put in reverse and...no drive..for ages. Oh no🙄

Looked under..tranny oil was dripping from bell housing😣

Cancelled riding...wife and daughter not happy...f that car they said! I agreed.

So the < 2 yr old Ashcroft tranny and new TC fitted by the local indy at significant cost is leaking into the bell housing at less than 15000 klms. The transfer case seal also fixed by the indy when installing the auto is also leaking and has been for some time now.

What to do?

Go back to the indy....me thinks he'll not be keen to help..or go back to Ashcroft...me thinks they'll say any warranty is over now...or fix it myself....at least it won't cost me another 1.5k for install nevermind the repair whatever the cause is.

I think our LR days are now seriously numbered🤐

Pity one of the 5 x 25+ year old Patrols here can't tow the float!!

It is going to be 40C+ today and i will be towing the Boat the 120k's to Port Gregory using my D2a, This will be a perfect way to test how well (Or Not) the new thermostat and the grill Mod will help to keep the engine running at a reasonable temp.
Lots of Looong hills to climb and some soft sand to negotiate on this trip so it is a perfect test scenario

Got the TC out today which.took 2.5 hours mainly because all the friggin bolts were so tight..each most likely lock tighted and each requiring a breaker bar and 3 foot pipe to move them!!

Lucky none busted. The hoist and tranny lifter worked a treat.

Almost forgot to remove the breather hose and the shifter connecters are hard to get at so we dropped the whole assembly down to expose the top parts better before unbolting and sliding the TC out.

TC is leaking presumably from a intermediate shaft the end of which is visible but how one gets to it is yet to be discovered.

Tomorrow the auto will come out which is now pouring oil out of the wading drain hole. Lucky we're at home and not in the middle of Aus☺
