'My' D2 got a service yesterday.
Got the service it was supposed to get a few days back which was cut short due to discovery of a new issue, being the alternator bracket being broken.
Found a S/H one, drove up to buy it, drove home ... fitted, car started and driven into the shed for it's service
Bro was keen to test drive "his"
D2 now that it's been tightened up a little, he's happy with the way it drives now and no steering shakes(very mild).
I changed the steering damper, as I found that every now and then you'd get a very mild steering wobble at various medium/low speeds.
Ball joints are new, track rods/tie rods .. etc. Bro reckons we did panhard bushes, but I can't recall doing them.
For all intents and purposes the majority of the steering is pretty much new.
Old damper did have an initial oil surge/splutter when tested for condition, but once pumped it seemed to come good, no weak spots. New one got fitted anyhow.
The problem with this really mild steering wobble is low speeds. A few days back on a drive hit 130 in a few spots, bends, downhill, uphill, bumpy bits .. couldn't get any shakes, wobbles .. nuth'n from steering wheel.
Car drives nicely.
But at about 70-80 every now and then(ie. not all the time), it produces a very slight shaky wobble in the steering wheel. And it is only the wheel, not the body.
Next trick will be to give the stg box a bit of an adjustment, but will need the bro back for this one.
