What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I can't see a thread on this already, so thought I'd start one.

In the short time I've had my D2, I've done a lot of preventative maintenance, but now random issues are starting to occur. It might be useful for others to look out for the issues that crop up (where possible), so it would be good to capture the issues that people are having.

So, What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

    D2a - V8
    1. started dripping coolant - the threaded hole that the bleed screw goes into has split (made of plastic of course), so the coolant is slowly dripping from there. Looks like I have to buy a complete top hose set. Temporarily fixed (still dripping) with silicon wrap and an cable tie to stop it splitting further
    2. without warning, this morning the driver window regulator failed (hopefully just the plastic rollers). now just makes a 'ratcheting' noise, just managed to close it by helping it up.
    last week
    1. diff whine when coasting. Pretty sure it wasn't there before. Changed oil a couple of months ago, levels still fine. Need to work out which diff it is by removing drive shafts
    2. Drive train rumbling. Could be rear rubber donut, but seems in good condition. Front shaft and double cardin joint are new and fully greased. Again, need to remove shafts to check

Unlocked it with the key, opened the door, closed the door (alarm at 5.30am) pushed button on fob. Opened the door again - all quiet this time...:-)

Drove to Morwell and dropped it off for a service and inspection before a 5,000 km trip to Oodnadatta, Birdsville and Innaminka.

New oil, new filters, needs an injector loom (full of oil), needs a new rear drive shaft coupling, a new top hose, a new serpentine belt and a new front right shocker. I forked over loads of cash, picked it up and drove home to Moe.

What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Spare wheel carrier starting to wobble and make noise when the door is shut. I reckon it has developed a crack...

Also, on a trip down the peninsula today, noticed the temp gauge was reading at half way. It usually reads at about 1/5. Plugged in the nanocom and it was reading at about 61-65. All good. Dipped back down after a bit.

    Driver didn't grumble today.

Unusually, diesel use slightly better than normal, due I think to cleaning oil out of the ECU connecter and loom two weeks ago.

Yes 61-65 is way too cool! Get it looked at. When did you last change the thermostat?
