2004 Discovery 2 XYZ auto switch

Looking for the best place to purchase new XYZ switch either Aus or UK
Any help greatly appreciated as $795 sounds a bit rich.
Is secondhand worth trying or does this just delay the inevitable?
    Thanks

If your handy with the spanners , they are quite easy to rebuild, the hardest part will be removing/ replacing , but only if your catalytic converter is still there. It'll be in the good oil on how to rebuild.

As discorevy says they are pretty easy to rebuild, particularly if it is the later model with the black plastic body (which yours should be) as it will have contact tracks rather than micro switches inside. There are plenty of threads here on rebuilding and removing/reinstalling.

Unfortunately they are an expensive part, even from the UK you'll probably be looking at low $600's once freight and currency exchange fees are factored in. You may be able to do a bit cheaper if you look for a pattern part rather than genuine LR or OEM (eg ZF) quality though.

    Cheers

Has anyone priced or checked BMW parts for this?

The reason I say this is that I noticed the selector is stamped as a BMW part when I had it out yesterday.
It should be a stock ZF part.

Just brought a 2001 Discovery. Last owner was charged $1501 to replace it a month ago.......

Late last year he forked out 1050 for tyres.....

So things can add up quickly.

    YIIIIIKES!

I would be trying to fix it if it were me.

Mine has now done 174KK with no problems, although I have rerouted the aircon drain.

BTW I did some research on the XYZ and some of the earlier BMWs had a similar switch but the connector looked different in the admittedly poor photos I found. I think the only way you would find out would be to take detailed photos and send them to a big BMW parts supplier like Pelican Parts, But I think the were in the $700s USD anyway.

    and on river crossings?

I have been watching reports on these switches with amazement. If dripping water can cause all this trouble what on earth happens during an extended river crossing, or shouldn't I ask?

I think the aircon dripping thing is an urban myth,,

I can vouch that it is not an issue. However, my car does not start in neutral anymore, only in park.
